In Search of the King
Episode 12
Not based on any videogame

The episode starts off in Lana's bedroom as she's talking to a picture of her father and telling him that she hopes one day he'll be able to return to a world of peace. She kisses the picture and tells her father that she loves him. Just as she's ready to turn in, she hears a voice. She's a bit started, as princesses in their nightgown who are ready to go to sleep usually are when they hear voices come out of nowhere. The image of her father then appears in the mirror and he explains that Mother Brain banished him to the Mirror Warp, the world on the other side of the mirror, where all things are opposite.
Lana asks him why he waited so long to contact her, and he says that timing was not right, but now there's a way for her to save him if she hurries.
Now here's an interesting bit for you. When Lana was first contacted, she was in a pink nightgown with her typical boots and crown, now all of a sudden; she's in her normal outfit.
King Charles explains that she must go to the rainbow forest in Excalibur (the land of Wizards and
Warriors) and then go to the end of the rainbow, where she'll find the entrance to the mirror warp … no pot of gold though. When she steps
through, she'll find her father.
Another wardrobe change for Lana, now she's in a pink robe and waking Kevin up. She tells him that he has to get dressed quickly, as there's no time to waste. You know the usual deal. Kevin, being the typical guy he is, wonders what the big deal is all about.
Then she turns to Simon, who apparently shares a room with Kevin and tells him to wake up. Just so you know, Simon sleeps in a little stocking cap with a mudpack on his face and a long nightshirt with hearts on it. Awwwwww. Ain't it cute?

While Simon is getting up out of bed, Kevin has already changed clothes (with Lana in the room!). This is when Lana actually tells them what's going on.

Scene change: Simon, Kevin, Lana, and Duke are all suited up for action and ready to go off to Excalibur. They tell Megaman and Kid Icarus to stay behind and guard the palace while they're gone.

Kevin warns her not to get her hopes up, reminding her that the last time they thought they found him, it was a trick. Lana says that it's different this time. She can feel it in her heart.
While walking though Excalibur, Simon complains that it's hopeless. You can't get to the end of a rainbow, the closer you get, the further
away you are. Lana says that her father wouldn't make a mistake like that, and since this is a videogame world, she's probably right. The team decides to split up. All of this is being watched by a mysterious robed figure that looks just like the king.

As they split up, Simon walks by a sign marking the end of the rainbow, completely oblivious to it, and runs into the robed man. When Simon asks who he is, he says that he's just an old peasant who's headed to the end of the rainbow. Simon lets him go without any further questions. … well, he starts
to. Then he runs to catch up and ask him where the end of the rainbow is. The man points to the sign marking the end of it. Naturally, Simon tries to play it off, saying he knew it was there. During the conversation, the man's hood comes down, revealing who he is. Simon says he recognizes him from somewhere but doesn't remember where. At first he thinks he might be the salesman from Honest Abe's Bullwhip Shop, then thinks he might be the tree trimmer from Kongoland. The man walks off before Simon can figure out who he is.

Simon signals the others with a big horn and when they all get there, they go though the warp, fall down a rainbow, and land in a puff of clouds. Having found the end of the rainbow, Simon easily finds the Mirror Warp, "leave it to Simon to find a Mirror," Kevin says.

This is no ordinary mirror, though. (As if you couldn't figure that out.) When Simon turns his back to the mirror, his reflection starts making faces at him. He turns back around in time just to miss it. Duke walks up to the mirror growling, and his reflection barks back at him. Kevin tries to calm him down and when he walks back over to it, his reflection growls at him and makes faces again.
Lana says that they have to go though the mirror warp and find her father. Kevin agrees and their reflections nod in approval with sinister looks on their faces. The robed King Charles guy cheers them on from a distance, careful not to be actually heard.

When the N-Team leaps though, their "devilish" reflections leap out. Mirror Simon exclaims that they're finally free. Here's where the robed man comes up and tells them that he had been planning their escape for months. Mirror Lana says that now the Palace of Power is theirs for the taking. Mirror Simon is just happy he no longer has to be the reflection "of that stuck up Simon
Belmont."

Mirror Kevin says he can't wait to blast his way though those awesome video worlds. Well, nice to see some things don't change. He fires a blast towards Simon, Simon manages to duck, but his hair gets singed, which he yells at Kevin for and tosses a … ball of clouds or mud or something back at him.
Kevin takes the stuff to the face and, after making a quick three stooges reference, throws it back at Simon. Simon ducks and Lana takes the shot to the face. She walks over to Mirror Kevin, obviously flirting with him telling him that a guy like him is going to rise to the top of his field (I can't imagine there's a lot of competition in the evil duplicate of game masters field) and actually pushes a button on his control pad! Not the arrow keys, not the pause, but one of the actual buttons! This sends Mirror Kevin rocketing straight up into the air. With Kevin blasted off, Mirror Duke runs up and chomps down on Mirror Lana's leg. The Mirror version of King Charles (cause that's who it obviously is now) scolds them and tells them to quit fooling around. He tells them all they need to get the palace and do "some rocking and
ruling."
Meanwhile in the Mirror World, they begin to search for Lana's father by calling out his name. Kevin warns them to take it slow, since he's never actually played this world before.
After Lana's attacked by a fierce rabbit and Simon's licked by a friendly werewolf, they realize things are the opposite of how they're used to, just like their reflections in the mirror.
Lana spots a castle off in the distance and expects to find her father there. Kevin on the other hand has now gotten used to this and pointed out that he's more likely to be in the poor town. Lana seems rather less than thrilled to go checking though there.
In the poor town, they ask a woman who's dirtying up her laundry where to find the king. She points them in the right direction and then muddies up the "clean spot" she sees on Simon's clothes.
In his tree hut, King Charles is joyfully reunited with his long lost daughter (or vise versa depending on how you look at it) and Simon finally remembers where he knows that guy from.
Now let's get back up to speed. King Charles asked them why they came for him. Lana says he told them
to, which the King said he would never do. When Kevin asked why, King Charles explains that when they came into the Mirror World, their mirror images went into the real world, just as his image did when Mother Brain banished him into "this horrible warp zone." The King then tells them that none of them can go home until their mirror images
go back though the warp, which isn't likely to happen.
Simon then tells them how King Charles helped him find the warp at the end of the rainbow (but no gold. Mirror Charles already took that, I
guess). Now the group all figures out this was a trick. On top of that, they can't even warn Kid Icarus and Megaman about the doppelgangers since the Mirror Warp is the only way to communicate between the real world and the mirror world.
Back at the Palace of Power, it's been five hours since the team went off and Kid Icarus and Megaman are starting to worry. Just then, the Mirror Team announces their return. Kid Icarus says that it's an honor to have them back, completely ignoring the sinister smiles on their faces.

Then they say they want a celebration. Scene shift into the dining room, Megaman and Kid Icarus bring some food for Mirror Charles. Referring to them as "Mega Servant" and "Kid Houseboy" he thanks
them and starts eating the messy meal with his hands. This is about where Mega and the kid start to figure that something is wrong.

If that's not enough weirdness, Kevin just randomly starts shooting everything on the table with his blue (not red like they're used to seeing) zapper. Then Simon decides to have his favorite sandwich. A BLT. Bat, lettuce, and tomato. Yum.
Fortunately (for the bat), the bat manages to fly away. Duke also walks on top of the table and starts eating from Kid Icarus's plate. When he's yelled at, Duke growls at him.
Megaman says that now that he's back, he bets King Charles will show the villains whose boss. Charles says he can do better than that. He's going to invite them to the party!
A bit later, the Count and some of his minions of his show up. Here are a few party highlights.
Lana dances with the count.

The King dancing with somebody in a witch hat.
Duke wears the king's crown.
Kevin is dancing with Lana when Simon asks to cut in. When Kevin refuses, Simon wraps him up in the whip and spins him away like a top.
Kevin then hops on the table and sends all the food flying on top of Simon, burying him. Not once does Mirror Lana show that any of this bothers her.
And my FAVORITE part: The tabletop kick-line!

How often do you see evil mirror images of the heroes dancing on top of a table with a vampire lord and some dead people? Not often, I assure you.
At this point, Megaman and Kid Icarus definitely know something is wrong. You'd be hard pressed not to notice. I bet even Simon could have figured out something was wrong here. Maybe.
The next morning in the mirror warp zone, Lana and her father (the REAL Lana and her father) are spending some quality time together. Lana tells him about
Kevin and, oddly enough, King Charles doesn't seem to know Simon. Strange. Maybe they just never really interacted much.
After hearing that Kevin is the reason Mother Brain hasn't actually taken over yet, King Charles points out that now that he's gone, she very well might.
Kevin then comes into the scene and tells them that he's possibly figured out a way to warn Kid Icarus and Megaman. While the Mirror Warp is the only way to enter or leave, they can see their reflections in ANY mirror and maybe, just maybe they can use one of them to warn Megaman and Kid Icarus. Of course, King Charles doesn't actually have a mirror, but Simon does. Good old Simon. You can always count on him to be vain.

Using the mirror, Kevin contacts Megaman and Kid Icarus and tells them that the
N-Team in the other room are imposters. Just then, Mirror Simon bursts into the room and wants to know what they're doing.
Kid Icarus says that he's just combing his hair so he can look as handsome as Simon does. Simon tells him to give it up. No one is as handsome as he is. Then Simon leaves.
So, Mirror Simon is still an egomaniac and still clueless enough to completely miss the fact that Kid Icarus's reflection happens to be several feet taller than he is and wearing a high school jacket. He's definitely a reflection of Simon.
After Simon leaves, Kevin explains how to get the teams to swap over and Megaman has a plan.
In the other room, a poker game between a skeleton (that Duke is gnawing on) and Mirror Charles is interrupted by Megaman storming into the room and telling them that the party's over. He knows everything. Megaman then uses a vacuum warp to the Garbage World to suck out the Count and his minions. Having easily dispatched them, Kid Icarus tosses Megaman his bow and he shoots a rope arrow that wraps up the opposite
N-Team.

Back In the Mirror World, the N-Team waits for their counterparts at the entrance to the Mirror Warp, but they forgot
something: Mirror Megaman and Kid Icarus have been waiting for them. They plan to switch places with their counterparts, leaving the entire good
N-Team trapped in the Mirror World forever.
Of course there's a fight now. The N-Team faces off against the Mirror Megaman and Kid Icarus while the real Megaman and Kid Icarus arrive at the Mirror Warp with the Mirror
N-Team still tied up. At least, that was the idea. When they get
there, the team breaks out and reveals that this whole thing has been a trap. They wanted Megaman and Kid Icarus to come
so they could swap them out.
For those of you not keeping score, on one end we have Megaman and Kid Icarus vs. Evil Mirror Images of Duke, Kevin, Lana, Simon, and Charles.
On the other we have Duke, Kevin, Lana, Simon, and Charles vs. Mirror Images of Megaman and Kid Icarus.
When Megaman and Kid Icarus are tossed in the mirror warp, the evil versions can then get out.
Okay, up to speed? Groovy.
Kevin then yells for Kid Icarus to use his elastic arrow, which he does, and
he then starts to pull the Mirror team though the warp. With them distracted, Simon then uses his whip to pull the Mirror Megaman and Kid Icarus back away from the Warp.
The elastic pulls in the entire evil team -except for Mirror Lana, who manages to grab a
hold of a rainbow that appears out of nowhere (don't blame me. I didn't write
it). On the other side, the regular N-Team is rushing for the mirror, but Lana trips and falls. So neither Lana ends up where they're supposed to be.
The Mirror Lana outright refuses to go back in the Mirror warp and says that they will never be able to make her. The real Lana then tells her father that it's okay. At least he's safe now and that's what's best for Videoland. He tells her that
he can't let her do this for him and just in time to break up an emotional moment, the Mirror King Charles comes up from behind and starts choking her, that psycho old SOB.

As you might be able to guess, this makes good King Charles quite mad and he grabs the mirror of his daughter and runs into the
Warp. On the other side, Lana is briefly able to overpower her Mirror father and drags him with her into the
Warp.
As they cross over, the good King Charles knocks the Mirror Charles over as Lana escapes. With both King Charleses (or whatever the plural form of King Charles would be) on the same side, the mirror warp shatters.
Running to pick up a piece of the shattered mirror, Lana sees the image of her father. He tells her that this was all for the best. She still has a long life ahead of her and Kevin is doing a good job defending Videoland. He tells her goodbye and his image fades away.
Kevin tries to comfort her saying that King Charles is a strong man. If there is another way out, he will find it.
The episode ends with Lana saying she should look on the bright side; at least she
got to spend a day with him.
