Gameboy
Episode: 14
Based on: Metroid, Burger Time, and well, the Gameboy. … duh.

"High atop the Palace of Power, Princess Lana anxiously awaits the rescue of her father, King Charles, from the Mirror Warp to which Mother Brain banished him."

The entire N-Team is there in an observatory type room. Lana is telling Kevin that the interdimensional warp is only open once every 10,000 Videoyears. Kevin is sitting at the controls and basically tells Lana to relax, since he's the king of videogames.

Kevin pushes some button and tells Megaman that it's his turn. Megaman (who's standing on some weird glowing portal) gives him a roger, and then say he's opening the shutters His finger splits open, revealing a key, and he uses the key in some high-tech device to open a huge ceiling panel. Without pulling his key/finger out, Megaman energizes the "mega-tractor beam" by pulling a switch. A large energy ray shoots out from a device on the roof.

Lana is now all happy and excited that her father is going to be coming home. Kevin tells her not to get her hopes up. King Charles might not have made it to the Warpzone in time. Still she insists that he's going to make it and even crosses her fingers, which I think was a nice cute touch.

A message from the king comes over the view screen at that moment. King Charles tells them that he's not coming home right now. Instead, he's going to send a "remarkable child" called Gameboy (Oddly enough, Kevin has no clue what a Gameboy is.). King Charles even says that he believes one day Gameboy may be their greatest hero which rather takes Kevin by surprise. King Charles ends the transmission telling them to take care of Gameboy, because he's been like a son to him, and says that he'll find a way to return someday. Don't give up hope.

Simon tells Lana that with Gameboy helping them, they won't be needing Kevin anymore. Kevin comes back by saying that there's only ONE Game Master in Videoland. Lana goes from looking sad about not getting her father back, to looking excited that she's going to have an adorable baby brother. The quick change is even too much for Kevin, who falls out of his chair in surprise. Lana then goes off to get a room for the new arrival ready.

Simon being Simon, doesn't believe anybody can be as adorable as he is. This starts an argument between Megaman, Simon, and Kid Icarus as to who Princess Lana's favorite is. We also learn that she makes Videochip cookies for Kid Icarus and reads "mega-bedtime stories" to Megaman. Kevin tells them to break it up while they land the satellite. I don't recall any satellites mentioned before, but I'll go with it.

On Metroid, Mother Brain has been watching all of this on her magic mirror. She wants this new warrior for herself and calls Eggplant Wizard and King Hippo to go get him. One nice touch is that when King Hippo goes to salute her, he punches himself in the forehead and gets knocked down. It's just so hard to find good help these days.

Back at the palace, the N-Team are working on retrieving the satellite when King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard show up behind it in a ship to intercept. Eggplant Wizard pushes a button to activate the claw on the ship. As the claw starts to come out, a warp opens. Kevin and Simon come cruising out of it in the Warp Wagon. Eggplant Wizard immediately starts shooting corn at them. They dodge out of the way and come up behind Eggplant Wizard and King Hippo's ship and fill the ships exhaust with the corn that was fired at them.

When Kevin and Simon shoot back around, Eggplant Wizard tries to fire up the ship to get them. The fire coming from the exhaust pops all the corn and sends the ship flying out into space in a trail of popcorn.

"Call me corny, but man, I love this game."

Kevin and Simon get the satellite.

Cut to the Palace of Power. Gameboy has been removed from the satellite and the N-Team are all standing around him. Kevin seems a bit surprised that Gameboy is "some sort of weird computer." They put the batteries in him/it/whatever, and his screen pops to life. He introduces himself by saying, "I am Gameboy. I am programmed to play games."

The N-Team gasps in surprise at the fact that he's programmed to play games, or maybe it's the fact that he's a talking computer, or maybe they're just gasping in surprise at how horrible a merchandising tie in this is.

For the next few scenes we get to watch Gameboy destroying his new toys and trying to gun down Kid Icarus in a jet plane.

He also ruins some household appliances and gets ketchup and other assorted goo all over the N-Team. Then he opens up a warp zone and jumps in to escape. Megaman, Simon, and Kevin all jump in after him.

The all end up in Burger Time.

Hold up. Let that sink in. They end up in BURGER TIME! Not only that, but Kevin has ended up in a hot dog costume, Simon is an egg, and Megaman is a pickle. If seeing the N-Team dressed up as food inside of Burger Time doesn't make you love the episode, then you just suck.

Gameboy shows up wearing a chef's hat and apron. When Kevin goes after him, Gameboy shakes pepper all over the guy causing him to go into a sneezing fit. Gameboy jumps away using his own arrow pads.

Kevin and Simon try coming at him again, but when Kevin tries to shoot the guy with his freeze ray, ketchup comes out. GB starts slipping and sliding on the ketchup and ends up squirting some of it all over Simon.

Simon panics, thinking he's been hit. When Kevin lets him in on what it actually is, he tastes it and asks for some mustard which Gameboy then dumps on his head.

Simon's a bit ticked off by now. He looks like an idiot and people are laughing at him (yeah, I know, "what else is new?"), so he tries to whip Gameboy. Gameboy moves out of the way and the whip ends up grabbing Megaman. Megaman takes a tumble, pulling Simon along with him, and they both end up in a giant hamburger. The bun then falls on top of them.

Somehow they apparently catch Gameboy, since we then see all of them gathered around him in the Palace again. Kevin takes out Gameboy's battery and he shuts off. Simon suggests that they lock him in a closet and throw away the key. Kid Icarus and Megaman actually agree. Lana wonders how her father could have been so wrong about Gameboy. She wishes she could talk to him (Her father, not Gameboy. Nobody wants to talk to Gameboy.).

Kevin tells her that the warp closed hours ago, but she insists on trying anyway. The N-Team walk off, leaving Duke alone with Gameboy. Gameboy briefly flickers to life only to say, "defective performance cannot be tolerated." Duke whimpers a bit, licks Gameboy's screen, and then lays down to go to sleep.

It's so sad I tell you. Sad. I miss Burger Time already.

On Metroid, Dr. Wily lectures Mother Brain and her two other main minions. According to his findings, Gameboy is the most sophisticated computer in Videoland. Big Momma Brain sends Eggplant Wizard and King Hippo off to the palace to get Gameboy for her, but before they go, Wily gives them some schematics he's made for the GB.

In the palace, Duke starts to growl at the recently arrived Eggplant Wizard and King Hippo, only to be scared away when Eggplant Wizard makes a dandelion into a dandy-LION.

King Hippo plugs Gameboy back up and they tell him that Mother Brain just wants to play some games. Gameboy is immediately excited to go with them. They all disappear though a warp, leaving the schematics behind.

Duke's barking attracts Kevin, who finds the schematics on the floor and notices that Gameboy is gone.

Meanwhile on the sinister world of Metroid, Dr. Wily is busy putting Mother Brain's plan into operation. I know this because the narrator says these exact words. Wily fiddles with Gameboy's circuits a bit and turns him back on. Gameboy is looking mad now.

Lana figures out that the plans come from Wily. The N-Team (minus Simon who just doesn't care) all go to get Gameboy back.

Back on Metroid, Wily hooks Gameboy up to the defense systems of the planet. Gameboy swells up to Swartzenager proportions and Wily starts calling him "Game Brain". Almost sounds like lame brain if you're not paying attention.

The N-Team (still minus Simon, that conceited prick) are going though the outer levels of Metroid when they hear a spooky howling/growling sound. A hologram of Mother Brain appears before them, taunting them, and then she shows them Gameboy.

Gameboy creates a bunch of Rio's (those fly looking monsters from the beginning of Metroid) and sends them after the N-Team. The team dodges and Kevin picks them all off. Mother Brain laughs and advises them to turn back while they still can. You know, that's really nice of her. She didn't have to do that. Most villains would have insisted that they just all walk into a trap a die. The holograms fade and another Rio darts out at Kevin. From out of nowhere, a whip snaps it and it disappears in a pixilated mess. Simon has arrived.

Simon tells them that he didn't want to shirk his duties as a hero but now Lana is questioning whether or not going after Gameboy is a good idea. Kevin gives them a "we're doing this for Gameboy," bit and hands Lana his zapper. They all split up and go though different tunnels except for Duke who sticks with Kevin. Good boy.

Cue the episode's song.

"Do the Freak," which is a take off of "Monster Mash." I knew that even back when I was a little kid.

A pig-slug thing crawls towards Kid Icarus. He shoots an arrow and traps it in a net, but then gets stuck to the wall when a bunch of white goop is shot at him. More slug-pig things come after him.

Lana is jumping from floating platform to floating platform across a lake of fire. A fiery dragon comes out of the lava and breaths fire at her. She zaps it, but starts to fall into the lava. Fortunately, she catches onto the side of the platform.

Simon is backed up against a wall fighting springy enemies. After he whips them all away, a monster that may or may not be Kraid jumps out of nowhere and pins him against the wall. To say Simon is afraid would be an understatement.

Kevin is on the floor in front of a huge dragon-like monster that might be Ridley but I hope it's not. The creature breathes fire at him and Kevin dodges with his power pad. The dragon goes after Kevin and Duke goes around to bite its tail. The wanna-be Ridley breathes fire at Duke and he turns to run. The dragon goes back after Kevin and Kevin uses his control panel to dodge again, sending the dragon thingie either straight though a wall, or though a hidden warp of some kind.

Kevin is then caught by a bunch of tentacle monsters and Duke runs away.

*Insert your own joke here*

Also, this is the end of the song.

In her lair, Mother Brain is laughing and gloating when Duke runs in and pulls the plug from Gameboy. All the monsters that were fighting the N-Team then disappear.

That's a good dog. Me? I couldn't even get my dog to fetch.

Duke does a good job of dodging King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard until Mother Brain catches him.

Then everything starts shaking. Wily says that he's using too much power and its going to overload. Eggplant cries "abandon planet" and he, along with Wily and Hippo, run outta there.

Gameboy bares down on Mother Brain calling out "defective performance cannot be tolerated" and "malfunction." The ceiling starts to collapse and then there's a big boom. Not an earth shattering kaboom mind you, but a big boom all the less. After the boom, Gameboy reverts to normal.

Mother Brain calls to get her out of there and Gameboy uses the last plug in him to spin her out of the lair like a top. The rest of the N-Team arrive to see Gameboy and Duke beat back Mother Brain.

"That night, at the Palace of Power, an important welcoming ceremony takes place."

The N-Team and Gameboy are gathered in the throne room. Kevin pulls a large baseball cap out of his jacket and puts it on top of Gameboy. Simon even lets Gameboy use his mirror, which for him is very generous. Gameboy turns his cap around backwards and starts laughing.

Now despite being the introduction of one of the worst characters the show has had, this episode itself isn't a bad one. Duke and Gameboy even get to save the day and Simon doesn't come off as a total ass.
